Course Outlines and Unit Plans
for you Marea
This course outline incorporates Achievement Standards from Biology, Science and the Social Studies curriculum areas. The actual tasks which have been used for this course are also available on-line under NCEA tasks. The diving Unit Standards were carried out using the local dive shop. The students enjoyed this class due to the field work involved and it’s cross-curricular nature. So use this marine based outline and put in a ‘new course’ proposal at your school - your students will love you for it!
This is a short introduction to Marine Science topic for the students where they hopefully become emotionally engaged in marine issues and therefore hopefully interested in helping. It could also be done at the end of a course. Most of the students loved getting up in the front of the classroom and being the teacher!
This covers marine biology and some sampling techniques. The assessment for this unit is Bio 1.4 which compares the inter-tidal community with the sub-tidal community. The task which was used for this Achievement Standard is also available on-line.
