Theme - Mountains to Sea – Collaboration for conservation of our marine and freshwater environments in schools and communities.
Purpose
An inspirational professional development and networking opportunity for all those involved or interested in freshwater and marine conservation.
Objectives
• Provide a forum for marine and freshwater educators to network about education for sustainability initiatives & projects. (School and/or community based).
• To provide professional development.
• To provide a forum to discuss ideas on how we can collaborate in marine and freshwater conservation.
• Ensure strong delivery of Experiencing Marine Reserves (EMR) and Whitebait Connection (WBC) concepts around New Zealand.
Wananga Highlights:
• Experience what EMR and WBC do and find out how they can support or work with you towards enhanced freshwater and marine environments through community education and engagement.
• Keynote address from Hone Taumaunu. Learn about a successful collaboration between Ngati Konohi and Department of Conservation to achieve marine conservation. What is the moana suite?
• Hear presentations, meet and discuss with experts in marine and freshwater science, conservation and education.
• Learn about Project Twin Streams, an integrated community development approach. Keynote address from Tony Miguel.
• Find out about innovative new education for sustainability resources & projects.
• See the EMR and WBC programmes in action.
• Conference dinner with a difference!
• Snorkel the Poor Knights Islands marine reserve.
