Ever Imagined you could dive on a coral reef in Whangarei? Well the EMR team and sixty Northlanders did just that last Friday.
Samara Nicholas EMR coordinator added another first to a long list of great marine experiences recently by teaming up with Northtec and their hightec video conferencing facility and the ReefHQ team in Townsville. After a shaky start to the internet hook-up we were away. The ReefHQ team in Townsville had their diver in the aquarium with a talking scuba set-up and live time video camera. We were introduced to an impressive coral reef and hundreds of fish from the Great Barrier Reef. The two ReefHQ staff knew their stuff. We were able to ask questions and talk to the diver directly. It was an amazing experience for many of the people there and for those of us with a lot of coral reef time under our belt a great thing to do on a winter’s day in Whangarei. Full marks to the EMR team for making this happen and don’t be surprised if there are more virtual coral reef dives for us to enjoy in future. Marinenz Ed Aug 14
