A near natural crayfish population exists at the Tawharanui no-take Marine Park!

The Tawharanui Marine Park was established in 1981, it is managed by the Auckland Regional Council and has special fishing regulations equivalent to a no-take marine reserve. Dr Roger Grace and Vince Kerr went for a dive within the boundaries recently and said it was incredible to see a near natural population of crayfish and massive snapper swimming around. Yes marine reserves do work! See the attached related document by Callum Roberts and Julie Hawkins for a fantastic summary of the benefits!

Hope everyone is having fun in the water this summer, please keep a watchful eye on our precious marine reserves!
