MarineNZ funding partners
MarineNZ was created by the Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust, a not-for-proft organisation based in Northland. Funding for the website has come from three organisations:
The Lion Foundation made a significant grant for the Trust's Experiencing Marine Reserves programme in 2006, part of which was dedicated to the development of the MarineNZ site.
The Lion Foundation is a charitable trust that exists for the purpose of raising funds for the community. It was established by Lion Nathan in 1985.
The Foundation owns gaming machines in hotels, taverns and other licensed entertainment venues throughout New Zealand. We have approximately 2,700 gaming machines in about 175 venues from Invercargill to Kaitaia. All profits are returned in the form of grants to community organisations for legislated Authorised Purposes. In the year to 31 March 2007, the Lion Foundation gave community grants of more than $54million.
WWF's mission is to stop the degradation of the planet's natural environment and to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature, by:- conserving the world's biological diversity
- ensuring that the use of renewable natural resources is sustainable
- promoting the reduction of pollution and wasteful consumption.
Their work covers many different areas from policy work to campaigning, from on-the-ground action to education and capacity building.
MarineNZ is extremely grateful for the support of our funding partners, and thanks them for contributing towards environmental education in this way.
